Introduction to 3D Concept Art Course Overview

In just 12 weeks, you’ll learn professional techniques used by industry artists to create your own 3D concept art from scratch. You’ll dive into ZBrush Core, the digital sculpting software that bridges your 2D Concept Art skills with the 3D world. Learn how to digitally sculpt props and assets from thumbnail sketches, quickly block out 3D environments, and take your concepts to a polished level using rendering and paint over techniques.

By mixing 3D and 2D techniques for concept art using industry standard software such as ZBrush, Maya, Photoshop, 3D Coat and Marmoset Toolbag you’ll expand your arsenal of skills and learn the workflows used by AAA game design and VFX studios around the world.

The Introduction to 3D Concept Art course can be taken in a small group or as a one-on-one mentorship. Whichever you choose, you can rest assured that your mentor will take a personal interest in your future success and guarantee an educational experience like no other.

Prop Concept Art Design


Dive into designing your first prop using a mix of 2D and 3D techniques. Using Photoshop to create thumbnail ideations focusing on strong silhouettes, you’ll extract your designs into ZBrush Core. Learn common tools used for 3D Concepting including 3D gizmos, masking, IMM primitives, booleans, trim dynamic, inflate tool and clay polish. Next you’ll refine your blocked out designs and add detail. Conclude your final design process using external rendering packages like Marmoset Toolbag 3, then back into Photoshop for the final paint over process.

Environment Concept Art Design

Environment Concept Art Design

Find out how to quickly block out, light and render 3D environment concept art. Create basic compositions from multiple angles, and using Maya LT you’ll develop a simple interior room. Gather reference and create a lighting mood board to develop a concept for your final composition. Use Marmoset Toolbag 3 to set up shaders, lighting and camera angles in order to create a final render. Back in Photoshop you’ll do the paint over process, adding base layers, textures, details and FX to create a final polished composition. Finish with a polished piece of 3D concept art.

Krzysztof is a freelance Concept Artist based in the UK. While studying Architecture he discovered his passion for digital art and decided to chase his dream to become a professional Concept Artist.

His work ranges from realistic to stylized including characters, environments, vehicles and props. Over the years he has learned how to quickly adopt new tools, using them to his advantage in concept art production.
