A Two-Year Degree for U.S. Students

Not four. Compare CG Spectrum Institute's accredited Bachelor with Full Sail, Gnomon, Ringling, DigiPen and SCAD on tuition and time to complete. Public figures, side by side.

FOR STUDENTS IN THE UNITED STATES

Most U.S. art and game schools ask for four years and six figures. You may not need either.

CG Spectrum Institute's Bachelor degrees in animation, VFX, game development and digital art take two years full time: six trimesters, eighteen units, and one specialization from the first week. The qualification is accredited by TEQSA, the Australian Government's higher education regulator, and delivered fully online with live weekly sessions.

For a U.S. student, three things change.

  • Time. You work in your specialization from trimester one and finish two years earlier than a four-year BFA.
  • Cost. Total tuition for the full Bachelor is USD $59,999 at 2027 rates. Several U.S. schools in the table below charge more than that for a single year.
  • Who reviews your work. Your work is reviewed and pushed every week by mentors such as Dylan Ekren (Walt Disney Animation Studios: Encanto, Zootopia) and Carlos Rosas (Weta Digital, DreamWorks Animation, Framestore). Small corrections, stacked, over and over.

  • Figures as at September 2026, bachelor-level programs only, at each school's own published rates. Each school sets its own tuition and inclusions; check their sites for current rates.
  • Tuition against tuition. Housing, meals and materials are excluded for every school. Inclusions still differ: CG Spectrum Institute's figure includes the software licenses your subjects require, claimed back through reimbursement; Full Sail's includes books, a technology package and fees; Ringling and DigiPen charge fees on top of the figures shown.
  • Time in each subject. CG Spectrum Institute's degree is 18 subjects taken three at a time, each running a full trimester with weekly critique, and your specialization is one of the three every trimester. Full Sail's published Game Art sequence is 35 courses across 27 monthly blocks. Both routes are accelerated; they spread the work differently.
  • Degrees differ. A U.S. bachelor's is generally four years of around 120 credit hours including general education. CG Spectrum Institute's Bachelor is an Australian accredited degree, three trimesters a year for two years, in your specialization from the first week. Part time roughly doubles the duration.
  • SCAD, not shown: full-time undergraduate tuition $42,975 a year for a four-year BFA, about $171,900 over four years at the 2026-27 rate, on campus (Savannah, Atlanta) or online. ⁶

U.S. financial aid, payment plans, and what we won't pretend

CG Spectrum Institute is an Australian higher education provider. It does not participate in U.S. federal student aid, so FAFSA loans and Pell Grants do not apply to our degrees. Tuition is billed per trimester and payment plans are available.

You study online from where you live in the U.S. This is not a student visa program and there is no travel to Australia.

For some U.S. students, a pathway through one of our U.S. university partners with federal aid eligibility is the better fit. A Student Advisor will tell you which option applies to you, including when the answer is a partner rather than us.

Scholarships. CG Spectrum Institute opens scholarship rounds through the year, including rounds open to international applicants. Eligibility varies by round. Ask a Student Advisor what is open to U.S. applicants when you apply, or see current scholarships.

Find out where you stand before you commit four years

A conversation with a Student Advisor covers your discipline, entry requirements, session times in your time zone and the real cost. You leave knowing whether this is the right path, and if it is not, where to look instead.

THE STANDARD, NOT THE SEAT TIME

What two years here actually looks like

Professional standard from trimester one. You specialize from the start. There is no two-year general education runway before you touch the work you came for.

Mentored by people who do the work. Dylan Ekren (Walt Disney Animation Studios, Netflix) mentors 3D modeling. Carlos Rosas (Weta Digital, DreamWorks Animation, Framestore) mentors 3D animation. Bobby Rice (Rockstar: Red Dead Redemption 2) mentors 3D modeling. Firas Hosn (Ubisoft, Sledgehammer Games) heads game programming.

High-density feedback. Your work is reviewed in live sessions every week: pulled apart, corrected, pushed again. You find out what is missing while there is still time to fix it.

No place to hide. Deadlines, live critique, and a cohort chasing the same standard. Online is what makes this level of access possible from anywhere in the U.S.

Questions U.S. students ask

Is an Australian degree recognized in the United States?

CG Spectrum Institute is registered by TEQSA, the Australian Government agency that regulates every higher education provider in Australia. Studios hire on the work, and you graduate with a portfolio built to a professional standard. If you plan to use the degree for graduate study or a licensed profession in the U.S., a credential evaluation service such as WES can assess it against U.S. standards. Check with the institution you have in mind.

Can I use FAFSA or U.S. federal student loans?

No. CG Spectrum Institute does not participate in U.S. Title IV federal aid. Payment plans are available, and a Student Advisor can talk you through partner pathways that do carry U.S. federal aid eligibility if that is the deciding factor for you.

Are there scholarships for U.S. students?

Scholarship rounds open through the year and eligibility varies by round; some are limited to Australian residents and some are open to international applicants. Check the scholarships page for what is open now, or ask a Student Advisor.

What are the entry requirements?

A U.S. high school diploma or equivalent, a completed certificate, diploma or degree, or experience-based entry if you left school two or more years ago and can show relevant work. No SAT or ACT scores are required. Applicants under 18 need a parent or guardian's consent.

Do I need a portfolio to apply?

No portfolio is required for entry to the Bachelor or Diploma. You build one across the program. The Graduate Certificate is the exception and requires a portfolio.

How does the time difference work?

Live sessions run at set weekly times. Before you enroll, ask your Student Advisor for the session schedule for your cohort in your time zone so you can check it fits.

Can I study part time?

Yes. Part time halves the weekly load to around 20 hours and roughly doubles the duration: about four years for the Bachelor and about 14 months for the Diploma.

What if two years is still too much?

The Diploma is the first two trimesters of the Bachelor and a complete accredited qualification in seven months. Exit at trimester two with the Diploma, or keep going.

Which disciplines can I study?

Bachelor and Diploma pathways cover 2D animation, 3D animation, VFX, concept art, 3D modeling, game design and game programming. See all courses.
