Scholarship Overview
The 2D Animation Scholarship is for students who love bringing ideas, characters, and stories to life through animation and motion graphics. Whether you're constantly sketching, creating characters, experimenting with movement, or dreaming of a career in animation, this scholarship supports students with a passion for visual storytelling and a desire to develop their craft. It's designed for aspiring animators who are ready to build strong creative foundations, technical proficiency, receive serious feedback, and develop work that holds up to professional standards.
What you can Study
The 2D Animation Scholarship applies to CG Spectrum's Bachelor of Digital Art (2D Animation) for the February 2027 intake.
This specialised pathway is designed for students who want to develop the artistic, technical, and storytelling skills required for a career in animation. You'll learn how to create compelling characters, communicate ideas through movement, and bring stories to life while building a portfolio that demonstrates your growth as an animator.

Who Can Apply
The 2D Animation Scholarship is open to students who are passionate about drawing, storytelling, character creation, and animation. You do not need to already know how to animate or have professional-level work to apply. We're looking for creativity, potential, and a genuine interest in developing your skills.
Applicants must:
- Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- Be applying for first-year entry into an eligible CG Spectrum bachelor course
- Submit a scholarship application and a CG Spectrum course application to be eligible for an offer
- Demonstrate a passion for animation, drawing, visual storytelling, character design, or related creative disciplines
- Show passion, commitment, and a willingness to learn and improve
You don't need a polished portfolio to be considered. Drawings, sketches, characters, school projects, animation experiments, story ideas, or other creative work can all help demonstrate your potential.
How to Apply
To apply for the 2D Animation Scholarship, submit a short video (between 3 and 5 minutes) introducing yourself and telling us why you're applying. This doesn't need to be professionally produced. We're interested in your ideas, interests, and potential.
In your video, tell us:
- Which scholarship you're applying for
- Which CG Spectrum bachelor course and specialisation interests you
- What inspires you about this field
- What creative projects, work, or ideas you've explored so far
- Why you believe you should receive the scholarship
- What you hope CG Spectrum will help you build, improve, or become
You're welcome to include examples of your work, such as drawings, animations, personal creations, or other relevant creative pieces.
As part of the application form, you'll also be asked to nominate the CG Spectrum course you're interested in and provide supporting application details.
Successful applicants will be notified before the commencement of the February 2027 intake.
Applications are reviewed by a CG Spectrum Scholarship Review Panel made up of academic and industry representatives. Scholarships are not awarded based solely on technical skill or previous experience. The panel is looking for students who demonstrate creative potential, commitment, and a strong interest in animation.
The panel will assess applications based on:
- Passion and enthusiasm for animation and visual storytelling
- Commitment to developing creative and technical skills
- Creative evidence that demonstrates potential and originality
- Alignment with a 2D animation pathway at CG Spectrum
- The quality of the application video and ability to communicate ideas clearly
Examples of creative evidence may include:
- Drawings, sketches, or character designs
- Animation clips or motion tests
- School media, art, or creative projects
- Storyboards or visual storytelling work
- Personal creative projects
- Evidence of a distinctive creative voice, artistic style, or unique perspective
Animation experience is not required. We're looking for students who show curiosity, imagination, and a willingness to be challenged. The strongest applications will demonstrate not only creative ability, but a genuine desire to grow through feedback, practice, and professional training.
Application Deadline
Scholarship applications for the February 2027 intake close at 6:00pm AEST on Friday, 18 December 2026.
We recommend submitting your application well before the deadline to allow time to complete your CG Spectrum course application and upload any supporting materials.
All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application before the February 2027 intake commences. This includes both successful and unsuccessful applicants, so you'll know where you stand before making your final study plans.

For the 2D Animation Scholarship, CG Spectrum will award one full scholarship and two half scholarships.
