Q&A with Fiona

Which city are you currently based in?

Vancouver, BC, Canada

What did your pathway into the industry look like?
After I graduated at Sheridan College from VFX and computer animation program, I landed a job at an animation studio as a lighting and compositing artist. However, it has always been my goal to be an environment artist, so I took online classes after work to brush up my skills and portfolio. I finally got a chance to work at Mr. X and DNEG as an environment generalist, and am currently working at Method Studios.
What has been the best experience of your career so far?
A chance to meet people from all walks of life is my best experience of my career so far. The VFX industry is a dynamic working environment and you always get to work with people with different backgrounds and cultures. It has always been fun to collaborate with talented people all over the world.
What’s your advice for VFX students?

I think it is important to know what you are passionate about and start to define some short term and long term goals for your life and career that truly matter to you, make time to work on it every day and find examples that help inspire you to get started. Also, don't be afraid to fail - it is important to learn from your mistakes and that's how you improve. Also, I think it is important to stay connected with the community and share your work to get feedback.
