With almost two decades in the industry, Mark Pullyblank has held several lead roles at major studios like Rainmaker Digital, Frantic Films, Sony Pictures Imageworks, and Weta Digital working on films like Avatar, The Adventures of Tintin, The Smurfs, and Night at the Museum.
In this webinar, Mark (who now heads up CG Spectrum's animation department) shares his tips for animators wanting to speed up their workflow and create higher-quality work expected from professional animators in a studio environment.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:
- RESEARCH & REFERENCE
We will start by researching what goes into a compelling sequence including conflict and contrast. We will gather multiple examples and study the action, composition, and cuts.
- STAGING & COMPOSITION
We will block in our initial cameras and characters using 3-5 cameras to tell the simple story of our action. We will also cover multiple camera workflow techniques using the camera sequencer.
- BLOCKING, BREAKDOWNS, & SPLINING ANIMATION
Focusing on the poses first, we will block out our key poses working pose to pose with our curves in stepped. Next, we will add our breakdowns using a combination of pose to pose and straight ahead methods of animating.
- FINAL POLISH – THE LAST 5%
Keeping our workflow clean and versatile for as long as we can, we will employ strategies to polish our animation without losing control.
